My couples are always asking me to recommend wedding venues, florists, DJ’s, and other vendors, and so I’ve decided to feature a few of my favorites here on the blog.

Jenna Noordhoek, the Event Manager at the estate, took me for a tour and gave me a history lesson. The Deering Estate is one of the most amazing Old World wedding venues in South Florida. It was the Florida residence of famous businessman and philanthropist Charles Deering from 1922 – 1927, and now it’s the perfect place for a European-inspired DIY wedding — and a great excuse to shop the new BHLDN wedding collection by Anthropologie. There’s a beautiful stone courtyard that’s perfect for outdoor weddings out front between the Richmond Cottage and the main house that offers seating for up to 250. There’s also a huge grassy area out back overlooking Biscayne Bay. It’s the best of both worlds — the feel of a small, intimate wedding venue in the middle of Miami without the politics having to cut your guest list.

It poured so hard I could hardly see on the drive up — and all of a sudden it just stopped out of nowhere  and left behind a beautiful blue sky. Everything still looked amazing when I pulled in, and we met up and headed out to the gardens to shoot — and it started pouring. Hard. On the plus side, we now had plenty of time to get to know each other better. Tom and Melissa had just met when she mentioned that she’d bought Twilight on DVD and was really excited to watch it. (I’d give him a hard time about it, except that shortly after Stephanie and I met I volunteered to watch Pride and Prejudice with her. I even went to the library and got the book so I could read up beforehand and impress her.)

Forty five minutes later, we had the weather on our side. Here’s a little something we threw together.
