I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to get this up on my blog! My friend and fellow photog Courtney Ortiz and our friends at SoFlyphotographers (which I once tried to join, not realizing that it’s a women only photography group) put together an amazing fundraiser for Haiti relief called Share The Love. Local wedding and portrait photographers donated their skills and offered 30 minute photoshoots in downtown Hollywood, with all proceeds going to Haiti.

I photographed an amazing family and their beautiful baby — which was terrifying, because as all my friends and family can tell you, babies FREAK ME OUT. I love em, but they’re so fragile looking. Every time I’m within fifty feet or so of a baby, I picture picking it up and having it slip out of my arms like a giant bar of soap. When Stephanie and I have a baby, it’s gonna grow up wearing a helmet like Natalie Portman in Garden State. Or an inflatable sumo suit. For it’s own safety.

My crazy cool photographer friend Catalina Ayubi just blogged photos from our portrait shoot at The Deering Estate. I wanted new photos of myself for the site (because the cobbler’s kids never have any shoes) and she proceeded to melt my face off with awesomeness. Or maybe it was the choking 90 degree summer heat. In any case, I can’t thank Cat (and Willis Haviland Carrier, inventor of the air conditioner) enough. Check me out, and leave some comment love!

When people ask me to be in their photos, I usually tell them that I became a photographer so that I could hang out on the other side of the camera. Pictures of me rarely go well. I do the awkward smiles. I don’t know where to put my hands. I find myself in poses that I didn’t realize the human body was capable of. In what felt like an out of body experience, I asked (voluntarily, even!) my all-around awesome photographer friend Catalina Ayubi to shoot a few portraits of me for my website at the Deering Estate in Miami. And she flat out nailed it. Maybe being on the front-end of the camera every once in a while isn’t such a bad thing after all!
